The Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit (That Glow). I’m sure you’ve all heard about this hyped product by now. It seems highlighters are definitely the ‘must have’ product and trend of 2016. Every brand seems to have released their version – from the subtle to the blindingly bright highlight. Everyone wants that glow. But does the ABH That Glow palette really live up to the hype?
Now the palette retails at £39.00 and includes 4 full sized highlighters so you’d quite easily think you were getting a very good deal here considering how much normal individual highlighters of this size cost. There are 4 different shades: Sunburst, Golden Bronze, Bubbly and Dripping in Gold. In the pan they all look beautiful and have different tones depending on how subtle or how daring you want to be. Sunburst is a bright gold shade with a metallic finish. Golden Bronze is the darkest of the shades and looks more like a shimmery bronzer to me. Bubbly and Dripping in Gold are incredibly similar in colour which is slightly disappointing. They both have rose-gold tones to them, Dripping in Gold has a slightly warmer undertone compare to Bubbly.
Each highlighter is really easy to apply on to the skin and has a pretty smooth formula which doesn’t feel chalky. Whilst you can build up the colour and pigmentation to get to the colours below, they are a lot more subtle than I expected. They are not as hard hitting and bright as the Illamasqua Beyond highlighter in OMG which I use quite regularly. However, if you are after something a little more wearable day to day and want a mixture of shades then this palette could be a good choice for you. Personally, I do feel like there isn’t much variation in the tones in this palette and they are all quite similar. In hindsight I maybe should’ve chosen the Gleam palette which appears to have more variation in colour.
All in all, it is a nice palette and it is great that you get four different highlighters, however, I’m not sure how much use I will actually get out of this palette. Sunburst is similar to the Illamasqua highlighter in OMG but I would say it isn’t as powerful in colour and you do have to really build it up to get the wow factor. I really like the shade Golden Bronze but this is probably better suited to someone with a slightly darker skin tone to my own. It is more of a shimmery bronzer rather than a highlight for me. The shades Bubbly and Dripping in Gold are nice, however, they are too similar and are much more subtle than the other shades in the palette. For day to day wear, they would be a good choice. The depth of highlight that you like will definitely impact your decision on whether you like this palette or not. For me, I’m glad I picked up the palette and it will be something I dip in and out of but it wouldn’t be a product that I would re-purchase.
