First Impressions: Clinique

I’m not sure how, but I’ve never actually tried products from Clinique before?! Clinique are such a well known brand in the beauty world. They are renowned for their skincare products and also their makeup. Maybe wrongly, I’d always assumed it was for an older market and was a brand that my Mum bought from so I never gave a second thought to trying their products. When I was on my way back from Latvia and snooping around the duty free I noticed that they had a couple of offers on and a free bag of goodies if you spent a certain amount. It goes without saying that I am an absolute sucker for these sort of deals. Free goodies? Who could resist that?

Anti-Blemish Solutions 3 Step System

I was suffering with a bout of acne at the time and so their anti-blemish solutions 3 step system struck a chord with me. I’ve tried a lot of different brands and products and so I am always willing to try something new. I’ve been trying this for a few weeks now and I actually really like the 3 step system. To begin with there is a cleansing foam which is unlike any of my other cleansers and is really gentle on the skin. It helps to remove any excess makeup and grime that may be on my face after using micellar water. This is followed by a clarifying lotion which smells quite strong but at the same time really feels like it’s doing something. It tingles a little but definitely feels like it’s targeting the problem areas. Then after dabbing this on the acne prone areas, I use the clearing moisturiser which is the final step and I tend to use this before I go to bed. My first impressions of this 3 step system is really good, my acne has definitely reduced and I seem to be getting less breakouts.

Pep-start 2-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser

I’m not going to lie, I picked this up originally because of the incredibly and eye-catching packaging! I’d read a lot about this new range from Clinique and had heard good things so wanted to pick this up as part of the offer. At £16.50 it was a little pricier than other cleansers but very reasonably priced when you see how big the tube is. I’m definitely going to get plenty of use out of this! I also love that it is a 2-in-1 exfoliator and cleanser. The smell is a really nice orangey smell and the consistency is a little grainy giving you a great texture to exfoliate the skin without being too harsh. I’ve used this quite a lot and have loved the results. My skin has felt really soft and smooth after using this and it’s definitely one of my current skincare favourites!

So amongst the gift bag of goodies were some absolute gems! It was such a pleasant surprise of how much you actually got in the free makeup bag and it was definitely worth spending a little extra money! It included the All About Eyes eye cream which is a really lovely lightweight eye cream. It smells really nice and is suitable for even sensitive skin. It’s a small little tub but you only need the tiniest bit to feel the effects of it. A definite hidden gem! There was also a small tub of the Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief. This isn’t a product I would normally splurge money on so it was lovely to get a sample size to try out. This is a really thick and nourishing moisturiser which is perfect given the cold weather and time of year. It’s also a benefit that it’s a small size as this is now the perfect travel moisturiser!

Next up is the Clinique makeup which I feel is pretty unheard of as their skincare is such a predominant part of their brand. First up is the mini size High Impact Mascara which again is perfect for travelling! The application and wand is pretty standard but gives a really lovely day-to-day look and is a pure black colour. The all about shadow duo was in the colour combo of Ivory Bisque and Brown Satin which normally retails at £22.50. Now I tend to buy bigger eyeshadow palettes so this isn’t something I would normally pick up but the colours are really lovely. They are both shimmers, one is a perfect highlighter shade and the brown satin is a nice all over lid shade, something I probably wouldn’t re-purchase though. Last but by no means least is the Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick in ‘Matte Beauty’. This is more of a summery shade as its quite a pink toned lipstick but the formula is really lovely! It’s a long wearing matte as the name would suggest and unlike other matte lipsticks it’s not drying at all. At £18.50 it’s a little pricy but the formula and colour choices are really beautiful.

Have you ever tried Clinique before? What are your first impressions?

I only tried skincare products from Clinique and they didn’t perform really well on my skin, I have yet to try their makeup!

I think I’ve only tried one or two Clinique bits before too (and tend to get them confused with Clarins, oops) but I’ve always really liked them so need to pick up some more!

I used quite a few Clinique products and I like the quality of them. Their cleansing balm is one of the best products I’ve ever used! I haven’t checked their new releases yet, the colourful packaging is so catchy!

I have a real love hate relationship with Clinique- they have some really great products and I trust them as a brand as it’s what my mum always used when I first started wearing makeup. BUT anything that I put on my face from them breaks me out! Their bottom lash mascara is great though and I love all the Colour Pop lipsticks, I just can’t get on with any of their skincare products!

Oh that’s such a shame! I don’t seem to have had any problems so far thankfully!
