Smashbox is a brand that I’ve never actually tried *shock horror*. It seems to be a lot more readily available these days in a lot of Boots stores and also online and I thankfully saw this little beauty for £37.50 in duty free on a recent ferry trip to Holland. This lip trio normally retails at $52.00 so I made a small little saving on this purchase. I love a nude lip and tend to wear these sorts of colours day in, day out so it seemed like a worthy investment and seemed the perfect time to try out this brand. First impressions – I really like the sturdy black and metallic packaging of the lipsticks. I also really liked that the lipsticks in this trio were all full size 3g lipsticks and not miniatures.
First up we have ‘Famous’ – a muted peachy-nude shade with a creamy finish and a sheen too it. This is the palest shade of the trio and is a typical nude shade. It’s a really wearable and inoffensive shade and the formula is really creamy and easy to apply. The formula feels quite hydrating and glossy but I’m not sure how long this will last. The blurb says these lipsticks are really long lasting so we will see if they live up to the test of time!
Next up is ‘Primrose’ – a medium rose pink shade. This is also in a hydrating cream formula and seems to have a sheen/gloss running through it. Formulated with a little shea butter, these lipsticks seem like they will be really moisturising and great for anyone with dry lips. The product applies really nicely and doesn’t drag across the lips.
Last but not least is the only velvet matte shade in the trio. ‘First Time’ is a lovely muted coral-brown colour – think your lip colour but better. This is a matte finish which I’m always a little wary of as they can sometimes be a little too drying on my lips but on first impressions this seems like a really nice finish and coverage. The colour is also definitely up my street.
[L-R] Famous, Primrose, First Time
Retailing at £17.50 for an individual lipstick, they are more expensive than your hight street lipsticks and also slightly more expensive than the Urban Decay Vice lipsticks which retail at £15.00 and are my holy grail. I will definitely give this trio a go though and see how I get on with the shades and the formula. For anyone who is interested in this particular range then you are definitely spoilt for choice! With 120 lipsticks available there is definitely something for everyone! There is a mix of 74 hydrating creams and 46 velvet mattes in the collection so no matter what shade or finish you are after, there is definitely a lipstick with your name on it.
I would love to know in the comments if you have tried any of their lipsticks or if you have tried any products from the Smashbox range in general. It’s definitely a brand I would love to know more about!
